How Corsets Came To Be
History has shown that corsets were birthed to allow women to show off their beautiful figures. Laced up so tight within an inch of their lives because it interfered with their breathing, corsets were used because they were deemed to help women look beautiful. However, nowadays, corsets are not used in the same light. Rather, they are tools that enhance the outfit rather than a main part of the wardrobe. It is interesting to note that corsets might have evolved from a type of body armor in the 1500s. They were also used by both men and women beneath their normal dress. Slowly and surely, the corset became the mainstay of woman's dressing as corset stays and Victorian corsets became more and more popular. A stay is worn over the dress and stops at the waist while the Victorian corset is probably the predominant picture of what a corset should look like, even though many different styles and designs were in use throughout the Victorian era.
Another interesting fact about the corset is that the original use for them was probably for health purposes and not merely for aesthetics. The design of the original corset was most likely with orthopedic purpose in mind as it was used to correct young ladies posture. The hard iron coating ensured that the ladies had the correct poise and body language in order to be accepted in those times.
Back in the modern age, corsets can be found anywhere you go. Whether mass produced or lovingly hand crafted, it is ultimately up to you which design you want to opt for. Of course, take note that handmade corsets can be expensive ' those who have perfected the craft might charge up to the thousands for a corset designed especially for you. Those in the supermarkets, though not as expensive, are mostly made of thin material which do nothing to enhance your body. One way to get proper mileage from these corsets is to ensure that you do not get one which is smaller than your size.
Corsets used to be the mainstay in households which had ladies or young women in them. However, they seem to have fallen out of favor with the females of today. Perhaps it is due to the fact that there are so many options for the ladies to achieve the perfect figure. Whatever the reason, it is still a useful piece of attire to have as part of any lady's wardrobe.
